Students complete approved milestones tied to participation, performance, and program completion.

How the Payment Process Works

Funds Are Loaded

Once milestones are verified, funds are securely loaded onto the student’s Alpha FlexCard. Cards can typically be loaded within 24–48 hours or scheduled for a designated payment date.

Use Responsibly

Students can use their funds for everyday purchases, transportation needs, or approved expenses — just like a traditional debit card.

FAQ:

  • Cardholder Benefits: The card can be used for purchases at a wider range of merchants, online, in-store, and by phone.

Funder Benefits: Ability to restrict purchases at specific merchant locations (MCC restrictions at the program level); liquor stores, casinos, etc. Access to aggregated spend analysis data by program.

  • Upon receipt, the card can be registered/activated via the cardholder website or mobile App, after registration, the cardholder can view their card PIN.

  • Yes. The card can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay wallets.

  • Online, in-store, by phone, anywhere Visa is accepted.

  • ATM access can be configured per individual program and in alignment with bank card rules.  Please refer to the individual cardholder agreement for details and fees.

  • Insufficient Funds: Ensure enough funds are available on the card to cover the purchase transaction amount. If the purchase amount exceeds the available card balance, the cardholder can split the transaction and pay the remaining amount with another form of payment, such as cash.

Authorization Holds: Merchant authorization holds can differ from the final charge for example “fuel authorizations” and “tip tolerance”. Generally, holds are for 3 business days, reducing the available amount to spend on the card until the transaction settles.

Program Restrictions: Each program administrator can restrict the use of the card at specific merchant locations, for example, liquor stores, casinos, etc. based on the card program and subject use rules of the funding provider.

  • Cards can only be reloaded by the funding administrator. Cards are reloaded based on the individual program configurations. Third-party and cardholder reloads are not allowed.

  • Each program partner, district, and organization, has a policy regarding unspent funds, depending on the card program. Typically, any remaining funds are swept off the card upon the expiration date and returned to the funding account.

  • The expiration date is configured and set per the perimeters of each program. The expiration date is displayed on the card, and in the cardholder app and online portal.

  • If your card is lost or stolen immediately contact Alpha Education Group at 512-300-5550. Card transactions will be reviewed, a new card will be issued, and any remaining funds will be transferred to the new card.
